On the adoption of a child, a teacher is entitled to one (1) day of leave at no loss of salary.
A teacher upon completion of 12 consecutive months of employment shall be entitled, upon written request, to adoptive leave in accordance with The Employment Standards Act and under the following conditions:
Employees intending to take adoptive leave shall notify the Superintendent of their intent as soon as a home study has been completed and the names of the adoptive parents have been placed on the Provincial Registry.
At the termination of adoptive leave the teacher shall be reinstated in the position occupied by him/her at the time such leave commenced or in a comparable position with not less than the same salary and benefits.
Nothing in the foregoing shall reduce the right of the employee with respect to adoptive leave which is provided in current legislation.
